A woman who disappeared with her children in September, triggering an
Amber Alert, has been arrested, Salem police said.

Police were notified Friday afternoon that authorities in Arizona had
arrested Victoria Quintero in connection with the Sept. 18
child-abduction investigation.

Recently, a Salem detective had informed the Pinela County Sheriff’s
Office that Quintero might be staying with relatives in Picacho, Ariz.,
Lt. Jim Anglemier said.

Victoria Quintero and her youngest son, Jonah, 20 months old, were found
at a residence there. Justin Quintero, 8, was at school.

An investigation began after Stacey O. Quintero, 32, of Salem and her
17-year-old nephew allegedly told police that Victoria Quintero, 37, had
abducted the children, who were in the legal custody of the Department of
Human Services.

Police think that Stacey Quintero allowed Victoria Quintero to take the
children, then made up the abduction story. Stacey Quintero and the
17-year-old were charged Sept. 23 with custodial interference and
initiating a false report.

Victoria Quintero faces extradition to Salem for criminal charges. The
two children were taken into protective custody and will be returned to
Oregon.
