PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police say a girl was bound and sexually
assaulted on California Avenue on Sunday.
According to police, they were called to an address on Elmhurst Street in
Brighton Heights just after 7 a.m. on Sunday for a case involving a
missing girl.
While they were taking the report, 911 received a call that a 9-year-old
girl was found on California Avenue by a man walking his dog.
The girl was taken to Children’s Hospital.
During the course of their investigation, detectives learned that the
girl was asleep in her home, when, she said, a man broke into her room
and carried her from her home to a wooded area.
There, the girl said, she was bound and sexually assaulted.
The girl told police that she managed to escape when the assailant left
her tied to a pole.
She said she managed to untie herself, and then saw a man walking his dog
and ran to him for help.
That man, police say, took the girl to his home and called 911.
The assailant is described as a white male between 25 and 30 years old.
He has black, curly hair and is about 6 feet tall. According to police,
the man also has a full mustache and a goatee, and was last seen wearing
a dark ball cap, a blue shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at (142) 323-7841.
