A 15-year-old Alabama runaway was found in a Davenport auto parts store
Saturday, and a 17-year-old Alabama male has been charged with harboring
a runaway child.

Chadrick Piper, 17, of Toney, Ala., has been charged in Scott County
Court. Police said he’s been harboring the girl about two weeks.

Mr. Piper was charged after police were called to Advance Auto Parts
about 7 p.m. Saturday after Mr. Piper reportedly got into an argument
with someone there over money.

Police say Mr. Piper helped the girl leave her hometown in Alabama, near
the Alabama-Tennessee border, and drove her about 650 miles to the
Quad-Cities.

Mr. Piper knew the girl was a runaway, but took her anyway, despite the
girl’s mother’s wishes, court records state. The girl was reported as a
runaway about two weeks ago.

She is in the custody of the Department of Human Services until her
mother comes to get her, according to court records.

Mr. Piper was being held at the Scott County Jail Monday evening on
$8,450 bond.
