4-year-old Taylor Hill has been reunited with her mother in New Zealand.
They hadn’t seen each other in three years. Police say Taylor’s father,
Arlen Hill, abducted the girl and took her to New Zealand.
A chance encounter apparently led investigators to New Zealand and the
girl, who disappeared from the metro east three years ago.
Authorities found Taylor Hill earlier in June. But family members say the
recovery actually got started in late May, when a man who grew up in
DuQuoin, Illinois was visiting his brother and sister. The visitor just
happened to mention he’d met another southern Illinois man in the
He then identified a photograph of Arlen Hill, Taylor’s father. Hill is
accused of taking Taylor when she was just 17 months old.
Authorities then tracked Hill from the Phillipines to Auckland, New
Zealand and arrested him.
Arlen Hill could be back in the U.S. within two weeks.
Taylor’s family has released a statement thanking all involved for their
help, saying, “Our hearts and prayers will continue to go out to the
thousands of families who have missing children. Please help and support
them in every way you can. Taylor would not be coming home if someone
hadn’t reached out to us with a helping hand.”
The family also called the chance meeting between the two men in the
Phillipines “nothing short of a miracle”.
