A man ducked into a Bronx school cafeteria yesterday and tried to snatch
a 5-year-old girl, officials said.
The suspect approached the child inside Public School 33 on Jerome Ave.
as she waited for her mother about 3:15 p.m.
He grabbed her hand and said, “Come with me, I’m your father,” a police
source said. But the child screamed and said, “You’re not my father,”
capturing the attention of three nearby school aides.
The man, whom sources said might have been intoxicated, backed away and
apologized, saying he had made a mistake.
It was unclear last night how the man got into the building.
“We’re trying to figure out what happened here, how this guy got that far
[inside the school],” a police source said.
A spokesman for the Education Department said two school aides will work
with a sketch artist tomorrow.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man between 45 and 50 years old,
standing 5-feet-5, with salt-and-pepper hair.
