CHESAPEAKE — A 10-year-old girl who was walking home from school Thursday
afternoon fought off a man who tried to abduct her, then ran home to tell
her parents.

The girl was walking home shortly after 3 p.m. in the 4300 block of
Fontana Ave. when a man lurking behind Sparrow Road Intermediate School
tried to get the girl to leave with him, said Lisa Spruill, a police
spokeswoman. The school is at 1605 Sparrow Road.

The girl got away from the man and ran home to tell her parents, Spruill
said. Police were called to the scene, and officers searched the area but
could not find the suspect.

The girl described the man as a white male, 5-feet 8 inches tall,
weighing 145 pounds with a dark beard.

He was wearing a burgundy ski mask and a burgundy sweat suit.

On Jan. 26, a 6-year-old Virginia Beach girl told police that a man tried
to abduct her near her home.

The girl, her sister and a friend were riding bicycles through a park
near the intersection of Sunnyside Drive and Cardamon Drive in Lakeville
Estates. The man tried to force the girl into a car, but she got away
from him and told her parents, police said.

The suspect in that case was described as a white male, 20 to 30 years
old and unshaven.

He was wearing a white knit cap with sparkles and drove a tan, four-door,
mid-size car. Anyone with information about the attempted abductions is
asked to call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
