Student Thwarts Would-be Abduction in Citrus Heights

The nearness of a busy street intersection wasn’t enough to stop a man
from attempting to abduct a 9-year-old girl from her Citrus Heights
school Thursday.

Citrus Heights police said the attempted kidnapping occurred in front of
Holy Family Catholic School on the 7800 block of Old Auburn Road Thursday
afternoon as the student was waiting for her mother to pick her up.

The victim said the man grabbed her and tried to drag her into one of the
classrooms. She was able to break free and the man fled the school
grounds.

The suspect is described 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall with
short dark hair and a moustache. He has a red and black scar near his eye
and a black dragon tattoo on the top of his left wrist. He was wearing a
ripped, long-sleeved white shirt, black pants, white tennis shoes and
appeared very dirty, according to police.

Investigators say the girl did all of the right things to get away from
the would-be abductor. They advise parents to talk with their children
about what happened and rehearse what they would do if a stranger tried
to take them.

The Citrus Heights Police Department would like to hear from anyone with
information about the suspect or would-be kidnapping at (916) 568-5115 or
