Citizens played an important role in solving the attempted abduction of a
13-year-old girl earlier this month, police spokesman Harold Eley said.
Acting on a Crime Line tip and calls from people offering information
about a car, detectives arrested 45-year-old Raymond Baskette on Thursday
at his home in the 2900 block of West Avenue, Eley said.
Baskette was charged with attempted abduction.
Eley said the callers identified Baskette as the owner of a faded black
Chevrolet Beretta that pulled up to the girl on Paul’s Park Circle and
tried to pick up her up shortly before 11 a.m. Jan. 20.
The 13-year-old refused and ran to a neighbor’s house when the stranger
continued questioning her, Eley said
