A Maine camp counselor charged with possessing child pornography was
reported by his Jamaica Plain roommates who found hundreds of sexual
images of young boys on his computer, a prosecutor said yesterday.

Matthew Elansky, 22, was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail by West
Roxbury District Court Judge Mary Hogan Sullivan after Assistant Attorney
General Dana Leccese told the judge Elansky will probably face additional
charges.

The prosecutor said Elansky, a Connecticut native and student at the
Boston School of Architecture, had “hundreds of images” and movies of
child pornography on a computer hard drive and investigators are also
sorting through 100 CDs seized with a search warrant.

Elansky was a counselor for boys ages 7 to 13 at Camp Takajo in Naples,
Maine, where he was arrested last week. The images were discovered on
Elansky’s computers by his Jamaica Plain roommates when they tried to
download a movie from his computer onto a DVD, Leccese said.

The roommates sent an e-mail to the National Center for Missing and
Exploited Children reporting the child porn and the complaint was
forwarded to Massachusetts authorities, Leccese said.
