SANTA ROSA, Calif. A man who recently moved into a group home for the
developmentally disabled tried to abduct a 9-year-old girl from a
neighboring house after stabbing her mother with a pair of scissors.
A neighbor pounced on the man and saved the girl after hearing screams.
Police arrested 26-year-old Joshua Theo Schwartz, who had moved into the
Le Elen group home four days earlier.
They said Schwartz entered a side door of the woman’s home and told her
he wanted to talk to her daughter.
The man then grabbed the girl by the arm and stabbed her mother in the
head with scissors.
A neighbor hearing screams rushed to the house and tackled Schwartz
outside, holding him down until police arrived.
The girl wasn’t injured and her mother was released from a local hospital
after being treated for cuts.
The attempted abduction happened Monday but wasn’t reported publicly by
police until yesterday.
