NORMAL, ILL. – A motorist who flagged down a Normal police officer
Wednesday night helped lead to two arrests in a child abduction case.

An Amber Alert was issued for a 1-year-old girl taken about 12:20 p.m.
Wednesday from a Boys & Girls Club in Peoria, Normal police said.

A man was arrested in a car about 7:10 p.m. in the vicinity of a
residence in the 1500 block of North Cottage Avenue in Bloomington. A
woman and the child, who was unharmed, were found in that nearby
residence.

The man and woman are the child’s biological parents, but apparently do
not have custody, according to initial information from police.

Police got several calls from motorists who spotted the car on
Interstates 74 and 55. Later, a woman recognized the car near White Oak
Park, which is near Cottage Avenue in Bloomington.

Police then located the car and the man near the residence.

The Amber Alert system in Illinois includes not only emergency bulletins
to the media, but also information flashed on highway signs. Such alerts
are issued only when it is believed the child is in danger.

Two Peoria police detectives investigating the case were at Normal’s
police station Wednesday night.
